Building Stronger Neighborhoods

Habitat for Humanity Chicago's Site Selection Committee was created in 2014 to support the organizations' efforts on determining where to locate future project sites. A series of neighborhood studies were created to document and support Committee's research and outreach to better understand the neighborhoods under consideration. Among the themes in these studies are urban context, physical environment, demographics, real estate conditions, ongoing and planned investments, among others.

Borderless Studio assisted closely in the planning and design process for the first charrette in the selected neighborhood: Greater Grand Crossing in Chicago South Side. Also developed support research and planning materials for this community participatory process. These materials have been designed to give an overview of Habitat's mission as well as relevant themes for both experts and residents input.

More about the community charrette.
